Located in the western region of Thailand, Kanchanaburi is 129 kilometres, merely 2 hours drive, from Bangkok. There are two ways in getting access to this province (Jangwat in Thai): either by highway no. 323 from the capital or by train from Bangkok Noi station. Straddling from latitudes 14 9' and 14 44' north and longitudes 99 10' to 99 25' east, the province approximately covers some 19,486 square kilometres. It meets Tak and Uthai Thani to the north, Ratchaburi to the south, Nakhon Pathom and Suphan Buri to the east, and Burma to the west. The province is administratively divided into 13 districts (or Ampoe in Thai), including Muang (the province centre), Ta Muang, Ta Maka, Panom Tuan, Bo Ploi, Saiyok, Tong Papoom, Sangklaburi, Srisawat, Lao Kwan, Huay Krachao, Nong Preu and Dan Makham Tia.
